For my first fashion week review I chose Marc Jacob’s fall 2020 show that happened on 12 February.
When I think about NY fashion week I imagine the models or some celebrities walking on the stage to show the audience their outfits. However, Marc Jacob’s show changed my idea of how the showcase should look. He made art from the runway. Models were not only walking, but they were also dancing, singing, and even acting on the podium. The audience could not only observe trends of clothes but also enjoy the overall performance.
Some people would argue with me and say that the show was too chaotic, models were walking fast on different sides and it was even hard to distinguish the theme of the show. Probably this chaos on the stage was an effort to demonstrate the New York city’s chaos in the city where everyone in a rush but still look good to fit in New York’s style.
However, despite the elegant subtext in Marc Jacob’s style, I believe that the designer’s overall theme was romantic tone because it seems that Jacobs was assuming the less is more.
The calm color palette of clothes, romantic shoes, which are mostly pumps, simple dresses, and baggy jackets that reminds the 1950’s style, demonstrate the overall look of this collection.

There were not a lot of accessories on models, and it also might be the part of the chosen theme ‘the less is more’ that makes this collection looks more romantic.
Most of the outfits on this show look standard without any decor or drawing but at the same time, it looks elegant and accordingly, it would be easy to find this collection similar to some other designer’s collections at this point. Moreover, some looks on Jacob’s runway might remind of Stephen Sprouse’s design (the picture below).

Marc Jacobs is more renewed for his “grunge” collection that got him fired but made his name recognizable. He shook the fashion world with his grunge collection that was already in the past. However, today it’s hard to still see this grunge style in his new collections.

Overall, I guess the designer’s question for this show is “can we live our lives in the clothes we buy?”. Everyone will answer this question differently because every person will have different opinions and experiences about both, the overall fashion show and the style that Marc Jacobs demonstrated.
